ACT Public Service Respect Equity and Diversity (RED) Framework Employment Strategies
The RED Framework was Launched by the Chief Minister in December 2010. As part of the Framework, Employment Strategies for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander People and People with Disability have been developed. The employment strategies, provided for under the ‘Public Sector Management ACT 1994′, include action plans with a range of initiatives to be investigated and/or implemented over the four year lifespan of the Strategies.
The Employment Strategies include a target of at least doubling the number of staff with disability and from Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander background by 2015.
The vision for the Employment Strategy for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander People is ‘For the ACT Public Service to be seen as an attractive workplace for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people to seek employment, and to more than double, by 2015 the employment of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people, across the Service’.
The vision for the Employment Strategy for People with Disability Strategy is to create a ‘A disability confident service, in which people with disability are able to access secure and sustainable employment opportunities and are respected for their skills and capabilities.’
Each strategy includes high level indicators to monitor progress over time. All ACT Public Service staff have a role to play to reduce perceived and actual barriers for people with disability and Aboriginal and Torres strait Islanders.
To help achieve this, strategy action plans include initiatives in three categories; Improve our capability, Retain employees and Attract people to the ACT Public Service.
